Posted by caroline81 at 2:40 PM EDTSpring fever is setting in around Gamesville HQ, which makes our thoughts turn to those of romance. And as we all know, love can blossom in the most unexpected of places - including here on Gamesville. Eight years ago, Mike and Mary, a couple that met playing Bingo in The Bingo Zone, got married in Virginia Beach, VA. Have any of you met a significant other playing Bingo or any other games on Gamesville? We'd love to hear your stories about the friendships and romances that have blossomed on our site. Leave a note in the comments or email us at members@gamesville.com. And Mike and Mary, if you are reading this, drop us a line and let us know how you are!
Here is the original press release about Mike and Mary's wedding from 2000:
Couple Falls in Love After Meeting in the Bingo Zone at Lycos Gamesville, Users Are Cordially Invited to Join in the Live Online Nuptials and Festivities. Lycos, Inc., the Internet's leading multi-brand network, today announced the live online wedding of Mike and Mary, devoted gamers and devoted to each other. After meeting in the Bingo Zone of Lycos Gamesville (http://gamesville.lycos.com) nearly four years ago, Mike and Mary carried their online romance offline, and will marry at their home in Virginia Beach, Va., on Saturday, June 24. Giving the bride away will be Lycos Gamesville Prizemeister, Josh Yeager. Mike Richardson, age 50, a field engineer for a medical systems company, and Mary Bucy, age 45, a retired banker, began chatting in the Bingo Zone on Lycos Gamesville, the largest online Bingo area in the world, in between light-hearted bingo games. The couple chatted and e-mailed each other for several months and a romance soon blossomed online, but it took almost two years for Mary to build up the courage to finally meet Mike in person. Mary took the first bold step driving five hours from Maryland to meet Mike at his home in Virginia Beach. The couple claims it was love at first sight.Mary moved to Virginia Beach to be with Mike and they decided earlier this year to get engaged. This will be the second marriage for both. Mary, divorced, is the mother of three grown children, and Mike, a widower, also has three grown kids. The couple's children and grandchildren will be in attendance for their June 24 nuptials, while hundreds of friends and other family members and fellow gamers from Lycos Gamesville will join in the live festivities online. Users can witness Mike and Mary's vows by attending the live online wedding or by going to the Mike and Mary Wedding Club. Users can also post well wishes to the happy couple or send electonic greeting cards. Following their wedding celebration, Mike and Mary will enjoy one week at the beautiful Sonoma Coast Villa in Bodega, Calif., located in Sonoma County, north of San Francisco. Posted by caroline81 at 4:40 PM EDTWe've recently been alerted to this great cause and thought we'd share it with all of you: On Saturday, May 10, Campbell Soup Company will join forces with the National Association of Letter Carriers (NALC) to Stamp Out Hunger! across America. Now in its 16th year, the Stamp Out Hunger! effort is the nation's largest single-day food drive, having collected more than 836 million pounds of food since its inception in 1993. To help out this year, simply leave a sturdy bag containing non-perishable foods, such as canned soup, canned vegetables, pasta, rice or cereal next to your mailbox prior to the time of regular mail delivery on May 10. Food items should be in non-breakable containers, such as boxes and cans. The nation's 230,000 letter carriers will then collect donations from homes across the country and deliver them to food bank members of America 's Second Harvest – The Nation's Food Bank Network and other hunger relief organizations in more than 10,000 local communities. You can find out more about Stamp Out Hunger! here.Updated: Tuesday, 8 April 2008 4:47 PM EDT Log in to Comment | Permalink Monday, 7 April 2008Love Romantic Comedies?

Posted by caroline81 at 12:08 PM EDTOur friends over at Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment sent us an early copy of the DVD for “27 Dresses,” which will be released on April 29th, and I wanted to say something about it to all of you since I really enjoyed this movie. In the film, Katherine Heigl stars as Jane, a romantic who is enthralled with weddings and always puts others before herself … which has led to her serving as a bridesmaid 27 times. When her shallow sister falls in love with her boss (Edward Burns) – with whom Jane had been secretly in love – she sees her life begin to fall apart before her eyes. James Marsden stars opposite Heigl as George, a reporter writing a story about Jane’s “always a bridesmaid” lifestyle who urges Jane to learn to say “no.” Katherine Heigl is charismatic and appealing as Jane, and has lovely onscreen chemistry with Marsden (who I think should be a much bigger star than he is). The two share some great moments, particularly a montage of Heigl trying on all of her garish bridesmaid dresses which are and a laugh-out-loud bar scene where the two try to figure out the words to “Benny and the Jets.” Scene-stealer Judy Greer, who is great in pretty much everything, is also featured in a supporting role. Certainly, this flick doesn’t break any new ground, but its sweet and frothy in a good way - like a strawberry milkshake. Check it out on April 29th. Posted by caroline81 at 11:45 AM EDTThis week's Best Pet is Joe - who appears to be quite the scholar - from North Versailles, PA. Pet Name: Joe
Pet Owner: Gamesviller sandyl5l37
Distinguishing Personality Traits: sandyl5l37 says, "This is my baby Joe. He loves to get around my saying 'no' to him by saying, 'I love you.' If he really wants something, he will say, 'I really love you.' Joe is very smart. I won't call him a dog because he doesn't think he is a dog. When he goes to bed at night, he lays his head on his pillow and needs to be covered up with his blanket and snores as good as any person. Joe will be 3 on the 2nd of April. He is just one big puppy that wants to play all the time!"

Posted by caroline81 at 10:17 AM EDT Congratulations to Gamblinggranny, who recently won $500 in the GV Gold Instant Win Game! Gamblinggranny says, "I am still on cloud nine! I started playing Gamesville back in 1998 when my brother told me of your site. I've won before, but only a dollar or two. This was long before Three Eyed Bingo was introduced! I still have the dreaded dial-up internet (my husband put me so far back in the woods that they pipe the sunlight in here). So when the jackpot is around $1,500, they all laugh at me because the computer has the phone tied up and the world stops for my Bingo games. I love to play, but I don't chat much for I am not a multi-tasker. Of course, I had to spread the good news and the only ones to believe me were my mother, Susie and Pat (my sisters) and my brother Robert. Others had to go see for themselves (including my daughter, Michell ... SHAME on HER!). My oldest son is following in Joe's footsteps and is an over-the-road driver, so I haven't been able to tell him yet. But I can't wait because they all thought it was a waste of time. They didn't think ya'll really paid any BIG money. Guess the joke is on them now! I do see a lot more of my family joining in with Lycos games in the very near future. One final word to those of you that have always wanted to know, "YES, LYCOS/GAMESVILLE REALLY DOES PAY YOU THE GREEN!" Besides Three Eyed Bingo, I love to read myself to sleep, spend time with family and friends, and watch "CSI," and NASCAR. I love to read Dorothy Garlock, Mariah Stewart, and most any other romance/mystery there is to read. Log in to Comment | View Comments (1) | Permalink Wednesday, 2 April 2008Gamesville Wallpapers
